Labour's plan, if elected, to increase apprenticeships and improve pathways from school to work is welcome, says the Industry Training Federation (ITF).

Labour has committed to strengthening the careers profession through investing in careers advice in schools, including careers education in the New Zealand Curriculum, and critically, strengthening partnerships between schools, businesses and training providers.

Extending workplace literacy funding to industry training is an essential economic and social investment for New Zealand, says the Industry Training Federation.

Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce confirmed today the government's additional investment in workplace literacy in Budget 2016 will be extended to industry trainees working towards Level 1 and 2 qualifications.

New investment in apprenticeships, workplace literacy, and Maori and Pasifika Trades Training make this Budget a good one for skills and training, says the Industry Training Federation (ITF). 

Budget 2016 contains several moves that will help develop our skilled workforce.  As well as sorely needed boosts to apprenticeships and Maori and Pasifika Trades Training, the ITF is pleased to see more investment in workplace literacy, which will support 600 more places in 2016 and 900 additional places each year.
